A simple high-performance liquid chromatographic method for quantitative analysis of brazilin in Caesalpinia sappan L. extracts
Abstract
The specific aim of the study was to develop and validate a simple reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for assay of brazilin in Caesalpinia sappan L. (sappanwood) extracts. Validation of the HPLC method was conducted under a gradient of methanol and 2.5% acetic acid using Halo C18 column. Brazilin eluted at 6.08 min was detected at a wavelength of 280 nm. The method provided good linearity, high selectivity, specificity, accuracy and precision. The validated method was successfully applied for quantitative analysis of brazilin in various sappanwood extracts prepared in this study.
